Looking for simple ways to reduce the volume of email that you receive every day? Look no further than your own backyard. That’s right. Most often, you have only yourself to blame!
Have you ever checked how many emails you send out every day? Most often, incoming emails are in reply to the ones that you sent out in the first place. Every time you send an email, you are inviting a response. Every time you mark multiple recipients in an email, you are inviting multiple responses back. And as we like to say, volume begets volume.
So what can you do about it? The next time you need to send an email, ask yourself if there is an alternative that would work as well. If you have physical access to your proposed recipient, just pop over. Other options are to pick up your phone or to use your organization’s instant messaging tool. If it is a file that you need to share, try a cloud based service like Dropbox or Google Drive instead of getting trigger-happy with your email. And we guarantee you’ll see a drop in volume.
